So those are reasons, but not excuses for my horrid blogging since I've been home.
First, THANK YOU for all your help through prayers, thoughts, fundraising... globally. I'm so blessed! Nick and company's UK/EUROPE Marathon efforts in May brought our fundraising efforts to around 42K since last October. That nearly pays for the 50K the first trip to India (Feb - April 2010) cost!! And it's paying off! Even with the infection, I'm improving, noticeably.
The 3 most significant areas I was noticing improvement in leaving India were my left hand, core and bladder. That has all increased, although the infection has masked my hand and bladder improvement a bit (my left hand spasms into a fist during the night and is really, really tight). I've hired a trainer who comes to my house three times a week and we've gone to Roll2Walk three times since we've been back. I use the FES bike 3-4 times a week. Unfortunately about 2 weeks after we got back, I hurt my foot and have just started standing again. OK, back to Roll2Walk.... Roll2Walk/Project Walk have a 40 point evaluation scale on rolling, kneeling, sitting, standing, sit to stand, walking. I was a 2 out of 40 on my 1st visit in January 2008, an 11 out of 40 before I went to India and a (conservative) 15 out of 40 my first visit to Roll2Walk after India (with jetlag and a UTI). 4 points in 4 months and it took 2 years to improve 9 points w/out stem cells... HUGE. AND, my trainers at Roll2Walk can tell there are definitely brand new core muscles working and I'm much stronger. I can sit up almost completely straight without using my arms for support.... my sensation and function line used to end mid-chest line, now it's easily mid to low ribs... with obvious contribution below... YEA!!
Keep in mind... noticeable improvements aren't really expected for months after return home.... Keep in mind... the incredible amount of work those stem cells have to do and I have to do to train them... I could do more, I mean I should do more... but I'm trying and working so hard... I suck at patience, but I know it's working. I know I'm healing! I hear/see it's working for my friends too... My friend Corben took his first step in India last week, WOW! He's my level injury, a year more recent, and on his 1st India visit... it's working! I'm so sad I couldn't have been there to see it! Another friend is sitting up on his own for 40 minutes at a time (after 2nd visit)... he has a little more damage than I, this is a big feat! Huge. Try turning your abs off and sitting up on your own... that's where we are starting from (that's a 2 out 40 on the Project Walk evaluation scale)...=)
So, stick with me, stick by me. I'm still here working, praying, hoping! We've decided to return to Nutech in India 8/31/10 - 10/5/10 for a 2nd visit. So, keep posted, keep us in your prayers.
P.S. We'll have a couple fundraisers in late July/August and I'd love to see you... even if all you have to donate is a smile and a prayer!
