It was so hot here this past weekend, I thought I was sitting inside the actual sun itself. SERIOUSLY. And I live in TEXAS! It got up to 112/113... luckily the humidity was low, so it wasn't as bad as Texas hottest hot, but... DANG!
6 days left, but who's counting? I'm conflicted... so ready to go home to my puppies, family and dear friends... but, I will miss the wonderful patients, doctors, nurses and staff here. And, of course I want more treatments! =)
So, since I last updated you, I've had all my several major procedures and have one more under the arm procedure left (as well as daily injections/infusions) and a caudal - lower spine. We leave the clinic 8:30pm Wednesday (4/28).
Typically with the spinal procedures I have felt a tightness/tingling/electric shock in scattered areas of my body and they quickly go away after the injection/procedure is completed. However, I felt the tightness/tingling at the sight of injury, across my shoulder line, down my left arm/hands/fingers, in spots of my right arm/pinky and ring finger, and from the top of my ribcage all the way down to my toes (all toes of the left and right big toe) and it stayed for about 30 minutes after the injection/procedure. Dr Ashish says where those feelings manifest during the procedure indicates where the stem cells are migrating... so, pretty much everything is getting covered! I'll describe more later, but here's an update from mom.

Subject: FW: How are you both?
It has been a long three weeks since I've been on the computer. Shannon has had a number of procedures and we have traveled to the big hospital again.
UPDATES We are coming home! We will leave here Thursday, April 29th at 12:30 a.m., around noon on Wednesday, April 28th your time. We arrive in DFW around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday the 29th for a flight time of 17+ hours. We are torn about coming home right now. We want to be home but hate to leave the treatments, too. We will most likely return in September/October, schedule allowing. RESULTS As you know, Shannon had some rough responses to a lumbar puncture and that took about a month to over come but she is now quite rallied. But subsequently, she has had wonderful responses overall to the stem cell treatments. As you know, there are short term negative feelings such as pain, headaches, and fatigue, but those fade. The positive results are well worth that. To date she has had feelings and sensations in all limbs of her body during several of the treatments. The most recent having the strongest and most lasting sensations. During the last 3 day procedure (epideral injections) she felt both legs, feet big toes, and all toes on the left foot, strong feelings in the left arm, hands and fingers, lighter feelings in right arm and not all fingers, her core (back, chest, abs), and sight of injury. The sensations typically go away rather rapidly, but there are some that have remained and new abilities have emerged as well. She was not able to move her fingers in the left hand beyond some slight fluttering but is now able to make the pincer grasp with finger and thumb, move all of the fingers, and increase strenght in the grip of the right hand. This is a major recovery for her and she is doing physio on her own to help keep it and strengthen it. She has purchased some items that will help her practice the new abilities.. The next big thing is that she was able to release the binder on her calipers so that she was standing using her core muscles (back and abs) to help her remain upright and to also do some forward pushups on the bars. This was a major goal for this trip and she mastered it!! One thing that did hold her back on this was her BP(blood pressure crashing and getting dizzy) problems. Her BP has been more stable this past week and I can tell an increase in her strength and endurance. She is "connecting" to her legs and or feet during this exercise more and more. It is when she is in the calipers that she moves (steps) forward with assistance from the physio doctor. This forward step is designed to activate the hip flexors. She has also felt her quads work and so did I!! She felt her quads kick in and lift her pelvic. She excitedly told me and then was able to do it several more times so that I could feel it, too. She was able to do that one more time and keeps trying to build that connection. There are many other smaller changes happening as well, touch sensations happening in her legs and feet, muscle movements in her legs that she is able to control some of the time, sitting more upright and increasing in balance while sitting, I saw her big toe flicker last night as she concentrated on moving it, and other stuff. She is sleeping in this morning so I won't wake her to get more specific updates at this time. She will take this email and update her facebook and blog, so there will probable be more info in those later on. SO, are these treatments working. YES. We will work to create a diagram to document where and what she has recovered to date. Don't know when.......but I think it is important to do so. The stem cells will continue to work when we come home and I know Ed will have her taped to the Total Gym for 24 hour workouts--lol. ( Trent and Shannon know his intense, focused coaching methodology--"Five more good ones then we will stop"---however, it may take 100 reps to get those 5 good ones!) The trip back in September/October is to infuse her with fresh cells so that the work continues! We are under a terror alert right now and are keep close to the clinic plus it has already been up to 112 and dry so it is hard to be outside. Love to all, Lola
